Reflecting on humanity’s impact on nature amid environmental collapse, this creative piece explores the unfolding consequences of economies based on extraction and exhaustion. Through mythology and poetic reflections, it critiques capitalism’s reckless ambition. The text uses world-building as a tool for imagining alternative futures, with art as a means to explore these possibilities. It asks: How can we adopt a critical, imaginative stance toward this crisis? How can we learn from and with nature, embracing interconnectedness and sustainable visions for the future? It calls for a collective reimagining and unlearning, urging us to listen to nature’s warnings and shift toward practices that that restore balance and strengthen our connection to the earth.

Luis Coquenão’s work explores the balance between control and unpredictability, inspired by natural forces like water, gravity, and erosion. His process captures fleeting moments of change, evoking the fluidity of existence. Reflecting on cycles of transformation and the tension between permanence and flux, Coquenão’s work brings to mind The Visible and the Invisible by Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Revealing deeper layers of existence, the artist suggests that the visible can hint at the unseen, reflecting the world’s continuous state of becoming.

By delving into intimate experiences and emotions, this project challenges societal norms imposed on the body, particularly regarding love, tenderness, anxiety, and pain. It delves into the mind-body connection, revealing resistance against societal expectations and explores how individuals navigate and confront these pressures in deeply personal ways.

Commissioned poem to accompany Manolis D. Lemos's solo exhibition at Forum Institution, Braga. This writing piece is a love letter to Earth, subtly looking into resistance through stillness - a prompt reflection on resilience amidst life's rapid pace. Directed towards the earth, this love letter emphasises interconnectedness and the essential need for environmental care. However, its open-ended nature invites personal interpretation. In essence, it advocates for a quiet resistance—a poignant reminder of the power in reverence and the enduring strength found in embracing stillness amidst movement.
